Do I need a rental license in Chesapeake Beach?
Yes. The Maryland People’s Law Library lists a long-term rental license requirement for the Town of Chesapeake Beach under Chesapeake Beach Code section 162-14, in a table updated September 22, 2026. The library links to the town’s rental application. Calvert County has no county license, so the town rule is the one that applies. The neighboring Town of North Beach also licenses rentals. See the rental license entry and our Southern Maryland rental license guide.
The library notes that if a local government requires a license and a landlord does not have one, the landlord cannot bring a failure to pay rent action in District Court. Get the license before a tenant moves in. The wider rules are on our landlord and tenant law page.
